Sow the Wind, Reap the Whirlwind: Integrating Health Sciences Libraries Into ILLiad and Interlibrary Loan Services
The purpose of this presentation is to give an account of the integration of two health sciences libraries – Robert Wood Johnson Library and George F. Smith Library – into ILLiad and Interlibrary Loan Services at Rutgers University. This integration took place over 15 months and revealed both the joys of adding new colleagues handling specialized collections as well as the sorrows encountered in weaning clients and training staff away from ineffective and inefficient policies and procedures. Training and implementation proceeded in five phases: Illiad/JerseyCat Lending, ILLiad Document Delivery, E-Z Borrow (PALCI), DOCLINE, and Loansome Doc.
- How to familiarize new staff with Copyright Clearance Center guidelines
- The teaching/learning nexus associated with DOCLINE and Loansome Doc
- How to build trust and cooperation with new colleagues/co-workers and foster a stronger resource sharing system
