United We Stand: The Merger of Interlibrary Loan and Circulation
This session will discuss the challenges and successes when Circulation and Interlibrary loan merged at Regent University Library. It is definitely more than a notion and a process that takes time, consideration and understanding from both departments. Merging two departments that have always had their own policies and procedures without the interjection of another entity is no small feat. Consideration of bringing different work cultures together can create stress on management, co-workers and friends. This session will discuss how library departments can survive and create an effective workplace for all employees involved.
Learn:
- How to develop a workflow timeline (with real examples)
- At least three major challenges to expect and practical ways to work through the pros and cons of uniting two departments. This also includes how to develop a plan to bridge the gap between Library Administration and the merging departments
- How customer service and statistics changed with the merge
